Uric Acid Level, Uric acid is a waste product in our blood. Uric acid is produced in our body after the breakdown of nucleic acid and purine. The excretion of extra uric acid is through urine. When the level of uric acid in the blood rises, It takes the form of uric acid crystals if the level of uric acid is high in blood then the uric acid crystals are left untreated, These crystals can form large masses called Uric acid stones.
These uric acid Stones either stay in the kidneys or get stuck in the ureters. Fortunately, if the uric acid stones are small, they are easily excreted in urine without severe pain, but if they are large, it causes the urine to flow back to the urinary bladder, Ureters, or kidneys and cause Severe pain.
The function of Uric Acid:
Indeed, Uric acid may exert fundamental roles in tissue healing via initiating the inflammatory process that is necessary for tissue repair, Scavenging oxygen free radicals, and mobilizing progenitor endothelial cells.
Cases Of Uric Acid in Urine:
- Tumor lysis syndrome
- Chemotherapy
- Uric acid Stones in kidneys
- Protein Rich diet
- Type 2 Diabetes
- Obesity
- Use of too much salt
- Being overweight
- Drinking too much alcohol
- Use of Diuretics medicines
- When the urine is continually acidic
Diagnosis of Uric Acid Stones:
- 24-hour urine test for Uric acid
- Urine Routine Examination
- Blood uric acid test
- Ultrasound
- Ct scan
- Stone Analysis
Symptoms of Uric Acid:
- Intense joint pain
- Lingering discomfort
- Inflammation and redness
- Limited range of motion
- Gout and misshapen joints
- Difficulty moving affected joints
High Uric Acid level:
- Seafood (especially salmon, Shrimp, lobster, and Sardines)
- Red meat
- Organ meats like liver
- Food and drinks with high fructose
- Corn syrup, and alcohol (especially beer, including non-alcohol beer)
How to perform the Test?
- A Blood Sample is needed
- Sample of Urine (24-hour period)
Material:
- Micropipettes (1000all, 100 4/1)
- Test tube racks
- Water Bath
- Patient sample (Plasma or serum)
- Uric acid kit (uric acid reagent, standard)
- Tissue paper
- Timer or stopwatch
Procedure:
- Take 3 to 5ml blood samples.
- Centrifuge the blood sample and separate the serum
- We need to take three different tubes one blank, one standard, and one test tube is taken for the test.
- If the first tube is blank we need to take 1000µL reagent in the second tube need to take 25µl standard reagent we need to take 25µl patient plasma or serum.
- Mix the reagent and incubate the assay number for 5 mins at 37°C.
- Aspartate reaction mixture flows and measures the absorbance of the test.
