Toxoplasmosis is a blood test, Toxoplasmosis is part of the torch profile panel. This infection is caused by a parasite commonly picked up from cats and stools. Babies room get congenital toxoplasmosis. If untreated it Can Cause blindness, deafness, sneeziness, and Intellectual disability. Toxoplasma Gondi is the Cause of Toxoplasmosis it is single celled Parasite.

Transmission of Toxoplasma Gondi

Direct Human contact with cat’s faces

  1. Soil contaminated with cat’s faces
  2. By eating contaminated meat” of Lamb pork, shellfish, venison, when undercooked
  3. Unborn Baby get infections from their mother in the womb
  4. Unpasteurized water with Toxoplasma Gondi
  5. Infected Blood Transfusion or Organ transplant

Causes:

The following symptoms occur:

  • Seizure
  • Brain Damage
  • Ocular Toxoplasmosis
  • Problem in walking
  • Abnormal movements

Effect of Toxoplasmosis on New Born Babies:

  • Body Rash
  • Deafness
  • Blindness
  • Mental retardation
  • Liver Damage
  • Hepatomegaly
  • Splenomegaly
  • Seizures

Diagnosis of Toxoplasmosis:

  1. Blood IgG/IgM detection by ICT method,
  2. Blood IgG/IgM detection by the Elisa method
  3. PCR (polymerase chain reaction)
  4. Bone Marrow culture
  5. Giemsa staining of the biopsy sample
  6. Periodic and Schiff (PAS) staining
  7. Indirect hemagglutination Test (IHA)
  8. Western Blotting
  9. Ultrasound, CT Scan
  10. MRI and Amniocentesis

Procedure:

Bring the specimen and test components to room temperature (refrigerator or frozen), Open the pouch at the notch and remove the device, Each kit Contains.

  • 10-panel devices
  • 10 plastic droppers
  • 2 Sample diluents
  • 1 Package insert

Place the test device on a clean, flat surface label with the specimen ID number. Fill the plastic dropper with the specimen, Dispense 1 drop of serum into the Sample well in each panel (avoid air bubbles), and add 2 drops of sample diluent to the Sample wells in each panel. Set up the timer and read the result after 10 minutes.

Conclusion Of Result:

The result is negative and there is no infection because IgG and IgM are absent.

IgM Positive:

IgM antibodies present in the sample of patients indicate Acute Infection.

IgG Positive:

If IgG antibodies are present in the sample of the patient, it indicates past/latent Infection.

Both IgG and IgM Positive:

IgG and IgM are both antibodies present in the Sample of the patient, It indicates Latent Acute infection or Recurrent infection.

Treatment of Toxoplasmosis:

Treatment of Toxoplasmosis By using Drugs, Pyrimethamine, and Folic Acid.

Prevention of Toxoplasmosis:

Use of Gloves during Gardening or working in the soil, Use Bottled or boiled water, and Only eat food that is well Cooked, and properly.
